Vitamin D is not actually a vitamin. It is defined as an essential dietary factor, a prohormone, (precursor to a hormone which enhances the strength of the hormone). It is produced from the interaction of sunlight on the skin. A vitamin D deficiency is becoming more commonplace because of the modern lifestyle which leaves little time for outdoor activities.
Vitamin D is crucial for calcium absorption in the body and hence, strong bones. It is also important for the regulation of healthy blood pressure levels, mood stability and insulin resistance. Adequate amounts of vitamin D may also support the immune system, lowering the risk of certain types of bacterial infections and more serious health conditions.
There are 2 types of vitamin D- D2 and D3. Vitamin D3 is the more active form. Peter's Choice Vitamin D3 is in a dry form which makes it easier to digest.
