Vibration Exercise Machines

Can A Vibration Machine Help Tone The Body?

I was in one of those big warehouse stores the other day and saw a demonstration of a whole body vibration exercise machine.  I had never seen one before and was curious as to its purpose. According to the  sales “pitch”, this machine could help tone the body, improve circulation, burn calories, strengthen muscles, increase bone mineral density, improve lymphatic flow, contribute to a better range of motion (flexibility), reduce cellulite, stimulate collagen and more.  It had a hefty price tag – over $2,000.  For that price, it better walk the dog too.

Back so very long ago, when I was in my 20’s, vibration machines were advertised to help passively exercise the body and lose weight.  You had to go to a clinic to use them.   I remember being intrigued by these ads.  But the fad seemed disappear.  I guess they didn’t work very well.

Vibrating The Body Could Have Benefits

Over the years, I have gone to chiropractors that have used powerful vibrating massage tools.  I have definitely felt the circulation improve wherever they were applied, so it makes sense that vibrating the entire body could have the same effect, but on a broader scale.

I decided to do a little research on these machines.  Though some of the weight loss and toning claims might be exaggerated, there does seem to be some endorsement by the medical community that these machines have benefits.

There is no doubt that the circulation will improve, including blood and lymphatic flow.  That is definitely a good thing.  A good circulatory system is very important for detoxification, nutritional delivery and healing.  There is also evidence that bone density might be improved which is also very positive. As for the other claims like weight loss and cellulite reduction? There is no evidence to support these claims.

No Easy Weight Loss Fix

There are definitely benefits to using vibration exercise machines, but sadly weight loss isn’t one of them.   Adding a vibrating machine along with  regular exercise may be beneficial.  For people who are not able to exercise, such as the elderly, these machines can help improve bone density and muscle strength.

You don’t have to pay a fortune for one though.  There are many machines available for under $500.
