Beware of “AminoSweet”

AminoSweet – The “Natural” Sweetener That Could Kill You

There is a new “natural”  sweetener on the market that isn’t really new, or for that matter, natural.  It is called AminoSweet.  And while the name sounds innocent enough, it is anything but sweet.  Using this “natural” sweetener could have a very bitter end. AminoSweet is the new name for the poisonous aspartame.  Poor old aspartame.  Nobody loves it anymore.  Maybe because America has woken up to the fact that aspartame is linked to cancer, seizures, heart palpitations, weight gain and numerous other dangerous conditions?

Aspartame Was Originally a Drug

You gotta hand it to the big corporations.  Their creativity and deviousness knows no bounds.   Aspartame was created by chemist James Schlatter as an anti-ulcer pharmaceutical for the drug company G.D. Searle & Company. He discovered it tasted sweet and the company switched the application to the FDA from a drug to a food.

1985

In 1985 aspartame crept into the food industry.  I was in my 20’s and living in my home town, Vancouver, B.C.  Residents of Vancouver were sent samples in the mail of  a new chewing gum containing aspartame.  I remember trying it for the first time.  My entire body bloated up.  I said to myself, that stuff is bad and I vowed never to eat it again.  I wasn’t the only one with a bad reaction to the aspartame.  Several of my friends also had negative reactions from the gum.

Why AminoSweet is Considered “Natural”

Aspartame or AminoSweet is made up of 3 chemicals – aspartic acid, phenylalanine (amino acids) and methanol.  Because the FDA claims there is no way to properly clarify what “natural” means, and has no clear definition of this term, the food industry takes full advantage of this.

The makers of AminoSweet claim that it is made from protein found naturally in many foods (referring to the amino acids aspartic acid and phenylalanine). But what about the methanol?  10% of this sweetener is made up of methanol which breaks down into formaldehyde when it is absorbed by the intestines. Formaldehyde is a deadly neurotoxin that interferes with DNA replication, causes birth defects, cancer and retinal damage.

Based on this loose definition of “natural”, I could manufacture a food which contains minerals like mercury, aluminum or arsenic and call it natural.  Oops, I better not give the food industry any ideas.

There is nothing natural about aspartame /AminoSweet, or whatever you want to call it.  It is poison.  Don’t eat it.
